The price

Their Plans screen shows two options. One month is $19.99, billed monthly. Twelve months is $79.99, billed once a year. That works out to $6.67 a month.

MyFitnessPal's Plans screen showing two Premium options side by side: 1 month at $19.99 billed monthly, and 12 months at $79.99 billed annually, tagged $6.67 a month. Below, a list headed "Premium helps you:" whose first two items are "Go ad-free" and "Log food faster".

What it adds up to

Monthly, 1 year ............................ $239.88
Monthly, 3 years ........................... $719.64
Yearly, 1 year .............................. $79.99
Yearly, 3 years ............................ $239.97

Tallix, forever ............................. $19.99 once

A calorie log is a habit you keep for years. So the yearly price is the one to look at.

What Premium sells you

Read the list under the price. The first two items are "Go ad-free" and "Log food faster."

Both remove something the free app put there. You pay to take the ad out. You pay to speed up an app that was slowed down.

The third thing is typing your own macros. Search a food from their database and the macros are free. Type your own protein, fat and carbs off a label, and four of the five fields are locked.

MyFitnessPal's Quick Add screen. Calories is an editable field reading "Enter calorie amount". Total Fat, Total Carbohydrates, Protein and Time each show a gold Premium crown instead of a field, above the line "Unlock Premium to Quick Add macronutrients." and a Go Premium button.

What free looks like

The free home screen, before you log anything: a gold Go Premium pill, an Instacart ad, and right under the ad, "Get ad-free tracking in Premium—upgrade now."

The ad loads late, with no space saved for it. When it lands, Log, View diary and your meals all jump down. The buttons move while you reach for them.

Detail of the MyFitnessPal home screen: the Instacart banner ad sits between the carbs, fat and protein card and the Meals section, directly above the Log button and the meals list.

It is slow, too. Timed on my phone: about 2 seconds of "Loading..." before MyFitnessPal opens, then about 5 more to log a calorie. Tallix opens in about half a second and logs in about 2.

Cal AI is MyFitnessPal now

If you left MyFitnessPal for Cal AI, you did not leave. MyFitnessPal bought Cal AI in December 2025. It is still its own app, but it has the same owner. It is a subscription too, roughly $30 to $200 a year, and the price changes from person to person.

It also does a different job. Cal AI looks at a photo of your plate and guesses. A camera cannot see the oil in the pan or the sugar in the sauce. If the label is in your hand, a guess is worse than the number you can read.

Is Premium worth it?

If you like their food database and want the ads gone, maybe.

If you read labels and want the number logged, you are paying $79.99 a year to type it. Tallix does that job and nothing else. No ads to pay off. No locked fields. $19.99 once, for every iPhone and iPad on your Apple ID, with a 7-day free trial.
